Two Great Competitions to Enter

Why the competitions? Well... Charles had this great idea on how to engage with the community and get people involved in helping their environment (which happens to be the theme for our World Environment Day Expo this year). "Have a competition!" he said. "Let's find out what people really think and feel about Darwin Harbour and ask them to write a song or a poem?"
And so... after talking with the organisers of both the Seabreeze and WordStorm Festivals, the idea became reality. A Songwriting and a Poetry/Spoken Word competition have been commissioned.
There are heaps of great prizes to be won (including cash). You get to show off your creative skills and you will be helping ECNT raise awareness about one of Darwin's threatened icons.

♫ Songwriting Competition ♫

To help us celebrate 25 years in the NT why not enter the inaugural
Environment Centre (NT) Songwriting Competition.
a Seabreeze Festival event.

We have nominated "Darwin Harbour" as the theme for this year's competition.

Darwin Harbour is fantastic: the fish, the birds, the mangroves, the animals, the lifestyle; don’t you just love it? And it’s just right here, within easy reach for our enjoyment and wonder, full of life, huge and beautiful.

Or maybe you’re a bit concerned about unsustainable development on the harbour?

Well now you can tell the world how you feel by entering in the inaugural Environment Centre (NT) Songwriting Competition. There’s plenty of ca$h and great prizes on offer, so sharpen your pencils, dust off the old metronome and get in tune!

You don’t have to be a singer or a muso to enter the Environment Centre Songwriting Competition; we have professional musicians on hand to help you add music and style to your song so it sounds just how you want. Of course if you’ve got the talent (and the equipment) go it alone! Open to all NT writers, musicians, bands, and anyone with a tune in their heart about the Harbour.

Selected entries in the Environment Centre Songwriting Competition will be performed on stage during the Seabreeze Festival Main Event on Saturday May 3rd, with the winners performing at the Seabreeze Variety Night on May 10th. The overall winner will have their song professionally recorded by Crocodile Records, and all of the performances will be recorded “off the desk” during the Main Event. Your song can also be performed at the World Environment Day Expo on June 1st.

Entries close COB Monday April 21st.
Entries need to be on paper and/or CD (if you can record your song) and clearly labelled with your name and song title. If you want assistance in putting music to your song you need to be available to work with musicians in the fortnight before Seabreeze Festival.

Entry forms can be downloaded here (pdf), or you can pick one up from the Environment Centre NT at 3/98 Wood St Darwin City.
Call us on 8941 7439 / 0428 485 461 and we can mail one to you, or email projects@ecnt.org.

Poetry Competition

To help us celebrate 25 years in the NT why not enter the inaugural
Environment Centre (NT) Poetry and Spoken Word Competition
A Wordstorm Festival event supported by the NT Writer’s Centre.

Theme: Darwin Harbour

We can all agree that Darwin Harbour is fantastic: the fish, the birds, the mangroves, the animals, the lifestyle; don’t you just love it? And it’s just right here, within easy reach for our enjoyment and education, full of life, huge and beautiful.

Or maybe you’re a bit concerned about unsustainable development on the harbour?

Well now you can tell the world how you feel about Darwin Harbour by entering the inaugural Environment Centre NT Poetry and Spoken Word Competition. There’s cash and great prizes in the offering for different categories, including Senior, Junior, Freeform, Traditional Poetry, Most Heartfelt and more!

You don’t have to be a pro or have stage or mic experience to enter the Environment Centre Poetry and Spoken Word Competition; we have experienced writers and performers on hand to help you develop your piece and your performing skills. Or just get up and give it a go! Open to all NT residents with a passion for Darwin Harbour.

Category winners in the Environment Centre Poetry Competition will be able to perform their piece on stage at the Wordstorm Poetry Slam event at the Vodka Bar on May 16th and at World Environment Day Expo on the June 1st.
