Two of the Territories leading conservation groups, the Environment Centre NT (ECNT) and the Australian Marine Conservation Society (AMCS) have welcomed the NT Government’s decision to protect Glyde Point.
Marine Campaigner for the AMCS Prue Barnard said "we applaud the Government’s decision to protect the precious and relatively pristine coastal environment of Glyde Point.
“The protection of Glyde Point will ensure it remains a coastal jewel for all Territorians to enjoy.
“Glyde Point is an area of significant cultural importance with high conservation values comprising mangroves, coral reefs and woodlands.
“We look forward to seeing the details behind the Governments announcement."
Coordinator of the NT Environment Centre, Charles Roche said “we commend the NT Government on its decision to protect Glyde Point.
“After many years of advocating for the protection of Glyde Point’s conservation values, we are delighted that it will not be subject to large scale industrial development.
“We look forward to working with the NT Government to secure the integrity of Darwin Harbour environment, including Middle Arm and Wickam Point."
AMCS and ECNT congratulate and thank the community for supporting the campaign to protect Glyde Point from industrial development.
