Targets Marginal Seats for Harbour protection |
The Environment Centre
of the Northern Territory is distributing information about Darwin
Harbour protection to households in the marginal seats of Karama,
Nightcliff and Wanguri. Over 10,000 copies of the fliers will be
inserted in copies of the Darwin Sun and letterboxes in those marginal
seats over the next week.
|
"This information clearly
sets out how individual voters can have an impact on the future
of Darwin Harbour" the Centre's coordinator Kirsten Blair
said today.
|
"We know the community
supports a National Park for Darwin Harbour, it's about time the
politicians caught up. Last year 8500 people signed a petition
calling for that level of protection. The Environment Centre is
calling on the major parties to stop dodging this important issue.
It's time for NT politicians come clean and let voters know if
they are for or against a National Park for Darwin Harbour"
|
"We're suggesting
that people contact their political candidates and tell them commitment
to a Darwin Harbour National Park will influence their vote on
August 18th" Ms Blair concluded.
