Glyde Point Protected! Two of the Territories leading conservation groups, the Environment Centre NT (ECNT) and the Australian Marine Conservation Society (AMCS) have welcomed the NT Government’s decision to protect Glyde Point.

Threat to Darwin and Bynoe Harbours removed. Marine Harvest withdraws sea cage fish farm proposal. Northern Territory environment groups say they are very relieved that Marine Harvest Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of giant fish farm corporation Pan Fish ASA of Norway, has decided to drop its proposal for barramundi sea cage fish farms in Darwin and Bynoe Harbours.

A huge community response as public comment period closes. 150 submissions opposed to sea cage fish farms to be presented to EPA. The public comment period closes today for the sea cage fish farm proposals for Darwin Harbour, Bynoe Harbour and Snake Bay with a huge community response.

Sea cage fish farm proposal threatens Darwin Harbour heritage sites. The Environment Centre of the NT (ECNT) says that the sea cage fish farm proposed for Darwin Harbour threatens to damage two declared heritage-listed sites: the Ellengowan shipwreck and the Channel Island Reef.

Withdraw Glyde Point industry plans, Government urged. Conservation groups have responded to a new report documenting the outstanding environmental, social and cultural values of the Gunn Peninsula/Vernon islands area northeast of Darwin by calling on the NT Government to withdraw its plans for a major new heavy industry estate and residential development.
