As expected the Uranium Mining, Processing and Nuclear Energy Review, headed by Ziggy Switkowsky, is a blatant promotion of the nuclear industry and fails to address the issues of radioactive waste or weapons proliferation in any meaningful way, the Environment Centre of the NT (ECNT) said. |

New report challenges wisdom of Federal Ministers’ nuclear power claims. A coalition of environment and public heath groups has today released a report that challenges the often repeated and rarely questioned mantra that nuclear power is 'clean' and a potential fix for climate change. The report is called 'Nuclear Energy: No Solution to Climate Change' (see www.foe.org.au). |

Environment Centre counters nuclear misinformation campaign. ECNT has commenced
a community awareness campaign to counter the misinformation
being put out by the nuclear industry and the Federal government
in support of increased uranium mining and nuclear power. Our
new information brochure explains why nuclear is NOT the solution
to global warming (or anything else).

NT’s
greenhouse shame. The NT has seen an extraordinary 72% increase
in greenhouse gas emissions from 1990 to 2002, according to a
report just released by the Australian Government Greenhouse
Office. The report presents the latest available figures and
reveals that the NT is responsible for emitting almost 90 tonnes
of greenhouse gases per person compared to the Australian average
of 27.5 tonnes.
