The Alliance Against Uranium met last week to discuss the Federal Government’s plans for a nuclear waste dump. Numerous community groups as well as Traditional Owners voiced their concern and opposition to the dump and committed to maintaining an ongoing campaign to ensure that the Government’s plans do not go ahead.

Federal Minister’s stunt on Browns Oxide mine a sign of things to come - Mt Todd the last example of Commonwealth fast-tracking! The Environment Centre NT (ECNT) says Federal Resources Minister Macfarlane’s announcement that the proposed Browns Oxide mine near Batchelor would be designated for ‘ Major Project Facilitation’ (MPF) is a stunt with worrying implications.

Batchelor uranium mine threat to horticulture and tourism. The Environment Centre of the NT (ECNT) is extremely concerned about Compass Resources’ claims that it can develop a uranium mine at Mt Fitch, near Batchelor in the NT, by 2008.

United front against uranium mining, exports and nuclear energy.
In a communiqué released today, Greenpeace Australia Pacific, The Wilderness Society, the Australian Conservation Foundation and 13 other groups have spelt out the environment movements’ opposition to all aspects of the nuclear industry.

AWB scandal shows Canberra's uranium 'safeguards' cannot be trusted. The Environment Centre of the Northern Territory (ECNT) says the unfolding scandal over wheat sales to Iraq proves that the Australian government cannot be trusted with proposed uranium sales to China.

Uranium: Tell the truth Minister Macfarlane! Only the NT Mines Minister can authorise any new uranium mines in NT. The Environment Centre of the Northern Territory (ECNT) says Federal Resources Minister Ian Macfarlane is not being truthful when he claims that the NT government has been sidelined on uranium mining in the NT.

Federal uranium group fails to address the real issues. The Environment Centre of the NT (ECNT), the Australian Conservation Foundation and Friends of the Earth have criticized the Federal government’s recently created Uranium Industry Framework steering committee, meeting in Darwin today, for avoiding a range of important issues relating to the nuclear industry.
