Environment Centre says "NO" to Alcan refinery expansion at Gove. Centre's EIS submission exposes unacceptable impacts and risks in project - The Environment Centre of the Northern Territory (ECNT) has come out strongly against the proposed doubling of production at Alcan's mine and alumina refinery at Gove, 650 km east of Darwin.

Greenhouse Strategy – A Welcome First Step But No Excuse To Stick With Dirty Industries. The Environment Centre NT today welcomed NT Government moves to develop a Greenhouse Strategy but cautioned that if the final strategy is to have any value it must look at moving the NT away from polluting industries and setting up a truly ecologically sustainable economy.

Territorians concerned about global warming – first National Survey released. There has been a marked increase in public concern about global warming, with Australians refusing to believe the "climate sceptics" who say the greenhouse effect is not real, says a new social research report. The national social research report into community attitudes about global warming is the first of its kind to be available to the public and was undertaken by international research firm Taylor Nelson Sofres.

Parap, Ludmilla, Fannie Bay and The Narrows become Darwin's first 'Cool Communities' – The Environment Centre of the Northern Territory is pleased to announce that Parap Residents Association and Ludmilla Creek Landcare Group have been successful with their joint application to the Cool Communities programme.

Kyoto action will be good for jobs. Discussions in yesterday's session of Northern Territory Parliament about the Labor party's plan to ratify the Kyoto Protocol on Climate Change show that both parties need to learn more about the Territory implications of ratification of the international agreement.
