NT Marine Parks

The Top End’s coasts and seas are one of Australia’s most culturally, aesthetically and ecologically significant marine regions, home to a spectacular variety of sea life and habitat. Our coasts and oceans are so important to the Territory way of life. Marine Parks, like National Parks on land, aim to provide protection for our marine life. We all stand to benefit from a better-protected and healthier marine environment.

Bynoe Harbour is only 40 km’s from the Top End capital and is one of Darwin ’ s greatest natural assets. The Traditional Owners have managed the Bynoe Harbour land and sea for millennia and their connection to country remains strong. Bynoe Harbour is home to a diverse range of relatively intact marine and coastal habitats and contains some of the NT ’ s best quality reefs. Bynoe contains a rich mixture of plants and animals and provides internationally significant habitats for many species of high conservation value. The future of this beautiful place is now being decided through the Bynoe Harbour Marine Park process.
