About the ECNT

» More information » Location

The Environment Centre Northern Territory was established in 1983 and has played a crucial role in improving environmental protection and management throughout the Territory.

ECNT is the peak non-government environment group in the Territory. We rely heavily on our members, both to help direct and run the Environment Centre's activities and for the contribution that membership subscriptions make to our limited resources. ECNT works to:

»

promote environmental awareness;

»

involve the public in conservation issues;

»

provide information via our library and files;

»

lobby government and industry;

»

inform the public on environmental issues via the media;

»

assist other groups to protect the environment;

»

liaise with other conservationists, both nationally and internationally;

»

publish a regular and informative newsletter; and

»

support the recognition of Aboriginal rights and aspirations.

A Management Committee elected from ECNT membership guides the activities of the Environment Centre. The Centre's day-to-day activities are coordinated by the Office Coordinator whilst our range of campaigns are managed by our Campaigns Coordinator.

ECNT is heavily dependent on its volunteer base- please contact the Centre if you would like to know how you can help us to protect precious Northern Australian environments.

ECNT gratefully receives funding assistance from a range of organisations, including national philanthropic organisations such as Myer Foundation, Poola Foundation, and the Mullum Trust. We also receive grants from fellow conservation organisations, and from the NT government, as well as members of the public.

ECNT also gratefully acknowledges the support it receives from the Federal Department of Environment, Heritage, Water and the Arts through the Grants to Voluntary Environment and Heritage Organisations.

The Northern Territory Government through the Environment Protection Agency Program, Department of Natural Resources, Environment and the Arts is pleased to sponsor Environment Centre NT Inc.  This publication may not represent the views of the Northern Territory Government.
